We Are Catching Stripers, Hybrids and Catfish on Planer Boards in the Shallows.

On May 4, 2018, Philip Shapiro fished for crappie with me. He caught some slab crappie. We trolled Hal- Flys in 15 feet of water over trees. Philip and his Dad plan on a big fish fry with the crappie.
The water is above pool and 72-74 degree. We are pulling planer boards in 4-15 feet of water. The fish are slow about hitting an area and we move to a different area and we can’t keep a board in the water. We are marking a lot of bait fish and fish. Fishing with me on May 5, 2018 was Lynn Murray, husband Joe and their son Caleb from Douglasville, Ga. They caught some nice fish. Check our photos and also our Face Book page.

On April 26, 2018, we started fishing 7 am and the water was 62 degree. We couldn’t find a fish but when the water hit 64 degree our planer boards started going down. Warmer the water got, the faster the boards went down. Fishing with me was Cletus Stamper, Rick Middleton, and Duey Holloway all from Lincolnton, Ga. They caught 23 fish with Cletus catching an 8 pound large mouth bass. Check our photos on wed site and Facebook.

Water Temperature is High 50s to Low 60s

The water is still not warm enough for the fish to lay their eggs. The crappie are full of eggs in 15-20 feet of water. The stripers are being caught in 12-18 feet of water on planer boards or down lines. Last year at this time the water temperature was in the mid 60 and the fish were in the shallow laying eggs. The fish should be coming in with in the next two weeks. Fishing with me this week was Scott Tredwell from Kernersville, N.C.(he caught a 8 pound striper), Lloyd Turley from Brookhaven, Ga.(he caught a 2 pound crappie), and Rodney Fowler from Statesboro, Ga.(he caught a 4 pound hybrid) They caught a total of 33 fish.

They only caught 4 fish but they were nice. One 8lbs, one 6 lbs and the other two were 3 lbs. Next week should be great for planer boards. That what we are using.
